striving to create equity for Black children in their instructional outcomes
Picture

An equity partnership for school systems striving to:

  • (Holistically address and) disrupt the proliferation of unfinished learning prior to, during and beyond the COVID 19 pandemic
  • Dismantle and close opportunity gaps that restrict access to grade-level content for historically excluded groups, especially Black children, English Language Learners, and students with IEPs
  • Achieve and sustain equitable outcomes in academic instruction for historically excluded groups, especially Black children, English Language Learners, and students with IEPs

The Equity Design School is for school systems that are in need of training for instructional staff that focuses on :

  • Skills + systems for how to improve low levels of student mastery while creating access to grade level content (instead of over-remediation, which leads to widening achievement gaps)
  • Skills + systems for how to sustain teacher development beyond summer PD and throughout the course of the school year
  • Skills, systems + strategies for developing instructional leaders (principals, department heads, etc.) as coaches + facilitators of adult learning, not just building managers
  • Strategies for how to streamline instructional priorities + initiatives, to enhance communication systems amongst stakeholders, develop a shared understanding of the relationship between existing

  • What is Equity Design School?
Equity Design School is a year long, equity-centered instructional leadership partnership for school systems striving to create equity for Black children in their instructional outcomes.

  • Who is this for?
Equity Design School is for your school system if you have:
    1) At least one system leader with decision making power that believes that all Black children can learn
    2) A disproportionate number of Black students who are not demonstrating mastery of grade level content
    3) Adopted Tier 1 curriculum that is green lit by EdReports

  • Is this a DEI workshop?
Nope. This is so much more! In Equity Design School, the team leading Teaching & Learning or Curriculum & Instruction in your school system will learn how to apply DEI principles to your professional development, coaching, and instructional planning structures.

  • Is this a curriculum training?
Nope. This is so much more! In Equity Design School, the team leading Teaching & Learning or Curriculum & Instruction in your school system will learn how to cultivate + sustain instructional leadership that has the capacity to develop teachers’ ability to create access to grade-level content, regardless of mindsets or experience levels.

  • How is Equity Design School different from The Equitable Outcomes Collective?
Equity Design School is an opportunity for your entire school system to adopt the The Equitable Outcome Framework, with the direct support of a partnership with Equitable Outcomes. That means that your entire system level team + key stakeholders will participate in decision making strategy sessions and your instructional leaders engage in skill-building professional development sessions. Furthermore, to facilitate implementation and troubleshoot emerging concerns, all Equity Design School participants will also receive ongoing virtual webinars that facilitate implementation while troubleshooting concerns. This is a great fit for system leaders who want more support with creating a more cohesive transformation within their school system. Alternatively, The Equitable Outcomes Collective is a course for school + system leaders that identify as Black + Pro-Black IPOC to learn how to apply The Equitable OutcomesFramework directly themselves for their own school system.

  • Will this help me address learning loss from distance learning + the COVID 19 pandemic?
Yes - And so much more! Equity Design School helps school systems holistically address unfinished learning + over remediation by transforming their structures and systems for teaching, coaching, and instructional planning. That means we get to the root of learning loss exacerbated by -not created by- the COVID 19 pandemic and proactively redesign the professional learning experience for all teachers + instructional staff.

  • Will this help me address racial inequity in my school system?
Yes - And so much more! Equity Design School helps school systems holistically address academic opportunity gaps for Black children by evaluating professional learning structures and systems currently responsible for academic outcomes. We then help school systems redesign them to build every single teacher’s capacity to create access to grade-level content for all Black children.

  • Is this in-person or virtual?
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Equity Design School is currently offered 100% virtually.

  • How do I sign up for my school system?

Christina Riley
K-12 Math and Science Instructional Coach

"My group was given the district cumulative assessment for ELA. We had to read and determine the two standards we would focus on the rest of the day. After we selected the standard, we needed to break it down further to what the students need to know and what the students need to do. Since I am math and science coach, I found this extremely challenging. After the activity was completed, I reflected on how Sable allowed me to productively struggle with the task and allowed an opportunity to experience how math and science teachers would feel unpacking the standards."

Lisa Sylvester
Principal at St. Martinville Primary

"Ms. Mensah's instructional guidance in professional development sessions has had a significant impact on my Educational Leadership capabilities. Her expertise as my DDI coach empowered my ability to deliver more specific and meaningful weekly Professional Learning Community meetings which is crucial for both teacher and student growth. I now have more knowledge of how to guide teachers on how to truly analyze student data which steers them toward better instructional practices geared toward specific student needs. Ms. Mensah's coaching has also provided me with techniques needed to become a better instructional facilitator for my teaching staff. She has taught me how to facilitate using specific verbal prompts which provokes teachers to think more critically which helps them to better engage in and internalize the lessons that they teach. "
